The City of Torrance and the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce partnered to promote environmental initiatives through the establishment of The Green Torrance Committee. The groups goal is to provide Torrance businesses a comprehensive source for “Go-Green” information, which is also attainable through our website www.GreenTorrance.com.
The City of Torrance endorsed The US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, becoming a “Cool City” in April 2007, pledging to reduce carbon dioxide pollution. The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce, in order to align with Federal and State initiatives, desired to promote efforts to “go green” to local businesses. As a result, the Chamber approached City officials about joining together to promote energy conservation in Torrance.
By pooling resources, the City and the Chamber, led by the Leadership Torrance Alumni Association (a program of the TACC), partnered with Aurora Enterprises, an information technology solutions provider, to design, develop, implement, update and maintain a portal to disseminate environmental information to small, medium and large-size businesses. The portal website, www.GreenTorrance.com, will inform businesses on information, methods and resources to protect the environment, conserve energy, and save money.
The group meets on the second Wednesday of the month at the Torrance Chamber office at 3:30 pm in the large Board room. The Green Torrance Committee meetings are open to all businesses interested in implementing, selling and/or supporting green solutions.
