Government Affairs Policy Group Mission

The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce is the collective voice of business in the Torrance Area and utilizes the strength of this combined voice for:

  • Business Advocacy & Leadership - To promote the success and positive image of business in the Torrance Area in general and, more specifically, the businesses of our members. To increase public awareness of the contributions and needs of business. To provide the community with business leadership.

  • Legislative Advocacy - To support local, regional, state, and national government officials, government policies, legislation, and political affairs that promote business and a favorable business climate and hence a strong economy and good job base. To oppose government policies, legislation, and political affairs that are detrimental to business and a strong economy. To communicate business positions assertively, clearly, and in a timely manner.

Reading the Record

One of the many benefits of Chamber membership is that the Chamber is looking out for the interests of business in the halls of government. The combined voice of many businesses is effective in getting the attention of our elected officials when they consider legislation, taxes, and policies. We seek to ensure that our elected officials recognize that their actions affect the economy, jobs, costs to business, and regulations that make a difference in the ability of our members to conduct business.

Government relations is a primary activity of the Chamber. Our Government Affairs Policy group reviews legislation on a regular basis. The Chamber’s Board of Directors takes positions on legislation and informs our elected officials how the legislation affects our members. We work with our elected officials so our members can concentrate on business.

Holding our elected officials accountable for their votes is an important part of the Chamber’s government affairs program. Reporting their voting records is one aspect of this. We appreciate and thank our legislators for votes on which they are in agreement with us. While we recognize that we won’t always agree, we respectfully request our legislators to consider carefully their votes where we are in disagreement. We look forward to continue working with our legislators on future issues.
