I vividly recall the first Rugby Sevens championship games I attended two years ago. I learned so much about this unique sport, the fan base for each participating country was loyal and the atmosphere was electrifying.
When California State University, Dominguez Hills reached out to see if I would like to attend this year’s championships, there was no hesitation on my end.
Rugby Sevens is a fast-paced, shortened version of rugby union played with teams of seven players instead of the traditional fifteen. Matches consist of two seven-minute halves, resulting in a high-intensity game that emphasizes speed, agility, and skill.
Arriving at the beautiful Dignity Health Sports Park, loud cheers from a game in session could be heard as a large group from Kenya danced and sang wearing bright and colorful clothing.
We walked along the LA Sevens International Fan Festival, which took place around the venue, featuring international music and entertainment, global flavors and cultural vendors.
We watched several games throughout the afternoon, all fun and exciting. The athletes from around the world have worked hard to compete at this level. Congratulations to the New Zealand women and the South Africa men on being crowned the HSBC SVNS 2025 champions.
