Torrance City presents Proclamation for Coastal Clean-Up

This past Saturday, community members gathered together to participate in this year’s Torrance Beach Clean-up event in three different locations in the Torrance area. The event, which happens yearly, is the largest volunteer day on the planet. The event is coordinated by the Ocean Conservancy, California Coastal Commission, L.A. Department of Beaches and Harbors and Heal the Bay.

Leslie Cortez, Senior Administrative Analyst/NPDES from the Community Development Department had this to say when asked about the importance of getting the community involved in a beach cleanup event like this one, “It’s important for individuals to take part in this global effort to keep our oceans healthy, to keep our water sources healthy, and to keep our community healthy,” Cortez said.

The event took place at Sur LA Brea Park, Miramar Park, and El Prado Park. All volunteers came together as a community to clean up their local parks and beaches with adventure-filled opportunities like a chance to win gift cards, t-shirts, and of course, clean up the beaches that many of us call home.

“Events like the annual beach clean-up are a great opportunity to bring our business community together for a good cause. Our beaches are one of the South Bay’s greatest assets – it’s one of the primary reasons so many people want to work, live and play here! Keeping our beaches clean also helps keep our local economy strong,” said Serena Josel Assistant Director, Public Affairs & Integrated Brand Communication, Kaiser Permanente, and Chair of the Board at the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce said.
The Chamber would like to thank all of the community members that went out to share their support and volunteered at one of three locations.  Be sure to visit https://www.torranceca.gov/government/city-manager/coastal-cleanup for more information on future community events that you can participate in.
