Leadership Torrance Class of 2017

Steve MacAller

Executive Director

Torrance-South Bay YMCA

  1. Where were you in your career right before joining Leadership Torrance?

While I was an experienced YMCA Executive Director, I was about one year into my assignment to the Torrance-South Bay YMCA.

  1. Where are you in your career and life now?

I have been involved the the YMCA organization for over 30 years, with the last 15 as an Executive Director in Rochester & Buffalo, NY, South Los Angeles, and now here in Torrance.  I enjoy my role with the YMCA, especially in the area of developing up and coming Y staff members and representing the Y in our community.

In my non-Y life, I am the happy spouse of Beth MacAller, Development Director at Switzer Learning Center and we have two beautiful daughters:  Annie who is a student and entrepreneur/photographer, and Sophie who is a Junior at Palos Verdes High School.

  1. What insight or benefit of Leadership Torrance do you value most?

The greatest benefit of Leadership Torrance is the people.  First of all, the people in my cohort, many of whom I am still in touch with today.  We made a strong connection with each other as we visited various locations and learned about our community, travelled to Sacramento, and completed a service project.

Second, and equally important, the community leaders we had access to during our day visits to various businesses, government offices, and services throughout Torrance.

As a newer member of the Torrance community and recent transplant to the South Bay, Leadership Torrance enabled me to start a network and build friendships with many people I would otherwise have never met.  This has benefitted me personally in so many ways.  It has also benefited my business as many of these relationships have led to partnership and business opportunities.

  1. Anything else you would like to share?

Consider this program an investment in yourself and in your business.  It will pay back many fold in many ways!
