Hosted by the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce, this annual celebration recognizes individuals whose vision, commitment, and integrity continue to strengthen the South Bay community. Each honoree has made significant contributions through their leadership, service, and dedication, and this event will celebrate their lasting impact.

Community Builder Award

Steve MacAller, District Vice President, YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles

Steve MacAller has dedicated his leadership at the YMCA to creating supportive, inclusive spaces that bring people together and strengthen community wellbeing. Reflecting on the honor, MacAller shared, “I’m thrilled and honored to be receiving the award. The YMCA is a center for community wellbeing, and I feel it’s not just my privilege, but also my responsibility to lead in a way that’s always inclusive.”

Legacy Award

Rob Van Lingen, Vice President, The Van Lingen Group

A third-generation Torrance business owner who believes enterprise and community go hand in hand, Rob Van Lingen exemplifies legacy leadership through his deep local roots, charitable spirit, and unwavering commitment to growing alongside and giving back to the community. “It’s humbling for me to be recognized for the journey my family has taken—it’s a labor of love,” he said.

Visionary Leader Award

Madhu Chanani, President, Bluestem Hotel

From humble beginnings in a small town in India to decades of impact in Torrance, Madhu exemplifies visionary leadership rooted in perseverance, community, and purpose. “This award is deeply meaningful. Leadership isn’t about one person—it’s about seeing potential, bringing people together, and pushing boundaries to create lasting change,” he said. Through projects at home and abroad, he continues to invest in people and places with a spirit of service. “Volunteering connects us, teaches us, and reminds us that the greatest impact comes from opening doors for others.”

Industry Trailblazer Award

Vince Giuliano, Owner, Gaetano’s Restaurant & Piccini Italian Takeout

Owner of Gaetano’s and Piccini Italian Take-Out, Vince Giuliano continues to lead with heart—blending family roots, culinary passion, and a strong commitment to service through annual donations and his monthly “Round Up and Give Back” campaign. He is currently working on opening a third restaurant, further expanding his culinary footprint in the South Bay. “Receiving the Industry Trail Blazer award is an honor and a humbling reminder of the support and inspiration I’ve received,” he said.

Spotlight on Excellence Award

David Dumais, Fire Chief, Torrance Fire Department

Fire Chief David Dumais has spent his career ensuring Torrance residents’ safety while upholding the fire department’s high standards. On receiving the award, Dumais reflected, “It’s very humbling and very rewarding to know that the work we’re doing here at the fire department is seen not just by us, but by the community we serve every day.”

Rising Contributor Award

Mark Applegate, Owner, Farmers Insurance

For more than 25 years, Mark Applegate has been a dedicated Chamber member, supporting events, networking, and sharing knowledge to strengthen the business community. Speaking about the recognition, Applegate said, “It’s an honor to be recognized for my contribution to the Chamber. I don’t do it to be recognized. I do it because I believe in the Chamber and want to see it continue to thrive.”

South Bay Spirit Award

David Henseler, President Elect, South Bay Sunrise Rotary

A longtime Torrance resident, world traveler, and active South Bay Sunrise Rotarian, David Henseler embodies quiet leadership and a deep commitment to service, showing that even in tough economic times, helping others brings purpose and joy. “I was genuinely surprised and excited. You don’t always realize people are paying attention, but it’s clear that when you give back, it matters,” he said.
