TACC Attends Hearing hosted by Senator Allen, 26th District

This past Friday, I had the opportunity to attend an informal hearing on higher education’s role in preparing engineering students for the aerospace industry. The hearing was hosted by Senator Ben Allen, Chair of the Senate Education and Select Committee on Defense and Aerospace.

LTC Tom Lasser, USA retired, provided opening remarks on the importance of bringing together the workforce and education to discuss the important issue. Senator Allen introduced three different panels of speakers; Aerospace Industry Workforce Status and Needs, the Engineering Pipeline from Southern California Higher Education, and Innovative Partnerships and Program Models in Education. Panelists included representatives from The Aerospace Corporation, Boeing, UCLA, USC, El Camino College, the assistant vice chancellor for research, California State University and Da Vinci Science.
