This week, I had the opportunity to visit and tour the Long Beach Container Terminal (LBCT) with colleagues from south bay chambers of commerce. Anthony Otto, Chief Executive Officer, LBCT welcomed us to the impressive terminal. He spoke about integrating cutting-edge technology with a steadfast commitment to sustainability, redefining maritime efficiency and setting new standards for the global supply chain.
As we toured LBCT, I was taken back at what I saw. LBCT proudly operates the most technologically advanced, efficient and environmentally friendly marine terminal in the United States. Using nearly all electric and zero-emissions equipment, LBCT is a model for green growth: moving cargo faster, safer and more sustainably than any other container terminal in the country.
As we toured the terminal, Bonie Nixon, LBCT Director of Sustainability spoke about the different areas within the terminal as we were provided with a narrated bus tour. She explained the process of receiving containers and then moving them to be placed on rail or trucks.
As we began the tour, we were told that we would never look at a single container as we had in the past. I believe this to be so true. To have stood next to one of largest container ships powered by Methanol and see the process of taking containers off the ship and to its nextlocation was short of amazing.
