Today’s Out and About column is special as it highlights a long-time member of the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce, as well as a vital nonprofit in our community, Harbor Regional Center. Harbor Regional Center is one of 21 such centers in California under contract with the California Department of Developmental Services. They began providing services in 1973. Today they serve nearly 15,000 people with disabilities, and their families, who reside in the South Bay, Harbor, Long Beach, and southeast areas of Los Angeles County.
Patricia Del Monico, executive director, Harbor Regional Center recently invited me to attend the Center as they were providing Coronavirus vaccinations. In all, 200 individuals with developmental disabilities, their families and caregivers, and direct health care providers received the vaccine on March 25th in partnership with Anchor/Oxford Health Clinic.
While at the Center, I had the opportunity to speak to individuals who received the vaccination. All of whom I spoke to expressed their happiness and how thankful they were to have received it.
