Torrance Mayor George Chen presents the Small Business Saturday Proclamation to Creative Joy, Dig It Torrance, Pinkberry, and Zoom Room Torrance in a Nov. 15 City Council meeting.

Small Business Week, extension of Small Business Saturday, serves as a critical launch into the holiday spending season for many local, small businesses. This national celebration was founded in 2010 by American Express and officially co-sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) since 2011.

This year, 53 small businesses participated in Small Business Week offering extraordinary products and services. Some highlights include 20% off services, a free moisturizing hair treatment with any hair service of $28 or more at Fantastic Sams, and 15% off and a free gift at Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio and Spa. On November 15th, Small Business Week co-chairs were excited as they were presented the Small Business Saturday Proclamation by Torrance Mayor George Chen. Small business owners included Creative Joy, Dig It Torrance, Pinkberry, and Zoom Room Torrance.

The Chamber also enlisted the help of Ambassador Christian School to promote Small Business Week. 27 students participated in a creative art contest with hand drawings and computer assisted programs. Skyler Culwell, 7th grade, was the winner of the contest.
