In preparation for the City of Torrance’s annual Armed Forces Day Celebration, 412 total banners are being installed along major Torrance streets to honor local men and women who have served or are currently serving in the United States military. As part of the Hometown Heroes Military Banner Recognition Program, these displays serve as a visible reminder of the city’s ongoing respect for military service. Of the banners, approximately 280 are Hometown Heroes.
Banner installation is led by FastSigns, a longtime member of the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce. Owner Stan Gray, a veteran, has overseen the project for six consecutive years.
“This is our sixth year doing this project,” said Gray. “As a veteran, it’s one of our favorite projects each year. Our team looks forward to it and loves supporting our Torrance community on this project.”
The banners have traditionally been installed along Torrance Boulevard and Carson Street, but this year the display is expanding along Madrona Avenue and Fashion Way, bringing the tribute to more parts of the community.
“I personally enjoy being involved with the Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade because it allows me to honor and show gratitude to the brave service members and veterans in our local community,” said Gray. “This parade has always meant so much to me, and I love being part of the huge celebration.”
He added, “The pride that the Torrance community takes in this project each year means a lot. To me, seeing these banners displayed across the city during Armed Forces Day symbolizes a collective expression of gratitude and respect that our community has for the service and sacrifices of the military, fostering a sense of unity and pride within the community.”
The banner program is one of several elements leading up to the City of Torrance’s 63rd Annual Armed Forces Day Celebration. As part of the weekend, the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce will also host the Armed Forces Day 5K for Freedom on the morning of Saturday, May 17, 2025. The 5K route runs through Torrance Boulevard, where many of the banners will be on display, providing a powerful tribute for participants and spectators alike.
The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce extends its appreciation to FastSigns for their continued commitment to this meaningful tradition and for helping honor local heroes in such a visible way.
