West High School is gearing up for the return of WHS Summer Reading Book Chats! We are looking for community members to join in sharing their interests and love of reading with our students. Here’s how it will work: Every participating teacher and district leader/community member will select a summer reading book. It can be an old favorite or a new book you’ve been wanting to read. We’ll compile a list of all of your books and students will be able to sign up to read one.

On Thursday, September 1st, the “Book Chats” will take place at 11:27 a.m. During the 30-minute block, every student will go to a classroom with the teacher/staff member/community member who read the same book they did. We will provide the adults with a list of questions to facilitate your conversations if needed, but the discussion is simply intended for students to share any reflections, insights, or questions about the book you read.

If you would be willing to join us for this great opportunity to connect with students and inspire a lifelong love of reading, let us know what book you will be reading by completing  this WHS Summer Reading formPlease see this Summer Reading Recommendations list from our librarian if you need some inspiration in selecting a book. Anything else that is interesting to you and appropriate for students is welcome!

We would love to have your responses by Friday, June 3rd. This will give our students enough time to select their books before they leave for the summer!
